Texas Limestone Twisted Slabs
The Twisted Slabs are freestanding sculptures carved in stone, or cast in bronze, stainless steel, or aluminum. I was inspired to sculpt something that spoke to a kind of transcendence, where the object offers a sense of movement in ways that rock or metal do not. This piece is great for any setting inside or outside that calls for it.

It all begins with an original form study
In the studio my forms are studied constantly through full scale foam mockups. Outside of the studio is a field of foam blocks for this work. It's where i find originality and feeling, pushing and pulling quickly through a block, unaffected by time or tool, acting on inspiration and intuition. And of course, similar to the art of tattoos, the final execution against stone offers unforeseen opportunities and nuances inhabited in the medium itself. For metal reproductions I coat the entire form with a filler so i can smooth areas perfectly, etch details and finally seal the form for a master mold.

Words from the Artist
I've been a practicing artist and designer for 20+ years and I'm local to Georgetown, Texas within the greater Austin Texas area. I build wall pieces and carve freestanding sculptures by hand. Across both, I'm interested in what happens when something rigid impossibly twists or flows. I also create message pieces for private or public spaces.
In my youth I grew up on the coast, living close to the water. In some ways I feel like the ocean moves through everything I make. My influences span physics, nature, science, travel, history, and gestalt and they all find their way into the work.
I trained early on as a designer/artist and spent my formative years in Los Angeles working alongside Imagineers, architects, artists and storytellers as a designer. From there I traveled across North America, Europe and Japan before landing in Austin, Texas, where I built a studio and spent several years incubating my style and honing my aesthetic. That period opened me to a broad way of thinking about materials and processes and gave me the space to develop a body of work.
